It's just... momentous

We accepted an offer on our home. We have our inspections tomorrow and then are supposed to close in 4 weeks or so. Ryan will be long gone to boot camp. We have a full-service move, care of the USAF, and I am still trying to nail down where we can hang out for 4 weeks until Ryan gets back to drive us west. Idaho here we come. But, how hard it will be to look back and see our friends and neighbors being left behind. I just cannot think of it quite yet...

School ended on Friday! Ryan grew up with the tradition of "Donut Day"... and so it continues.

We looked at our calendar and realized this was the last weekend we could all go on our steamboat ride. The Belle of Louisville is the oldest still working steamboat in the country. We LOVED it. The steam pipes blow old-time music and we ate our lunch up top on the observation deck. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Williams!

Today is the last day ever. EVER. Of Ryan's overnight call as an Internal Medicine Resident. Really people. Someone should applause.

Three years ago, when we first started residency, I remember seeing him walk through the door after hours and days gone and the wear was all over his face. I remember really thinking, what have we done? Is this what we want with our life? Is is worth it? It has been hard. It's been a real pressure cooker. He's seen the whole gamut of human emotions in dealing with the health and well being of people. The stories he has! (I'm going to blog about those later.)

When I can, I try to bring him dinner at the Veterans Hospital. It's the closest. Sometimes, I get there and he gets paged or has to run to an emergency (code)... I never know if we can sit and eat with him or if it's a drop at the curb. Today, things seemed slow, and we got lucky.

Entrance to VA Here he comes

We woke him up. Sleep when you can is how it goes. Sharing dinner in the ICU team room.

They play doctor with the phones and computers.

Off we leave him. As I push the stroller out I hear some vet yell to Ryan, hey what's up doc?
He chats back with him and I think it's nice to see him like this. On his last night of call.
And he is still happy.
And finally, we have Ryan's parents coming into town this week. Ryan has his program graduation fancy banquet and Tanner is getting baptized. Eight years ago we had this little boy that's been there through it all with us. Closing one chapter of our life this week for Ryan and yet just starting out for Tanner. I'm telling you, it all feels momentous. Please come if you can.

It is "just momentous" and I'm applauding for all of you! In fact, I'm giving you a standing ovation!!! We are so happy that you're almost finished, have an offer on your house and are moving to Idaho! I'll be there the month of July so I would love to see you! I can't believe Tanner is getting baptized! I still remember him in diapers, running around the yard and biting anybody he could get his teeth on! I think Lily might be following in his footsteps! What a great family you are!

End of residency, a sold home and a baptism. Wow. You know how to squish all the big stuff into one tightly packed life.

Congrats on it all!!!

We are so happy for all you guys have accomplished. Wrapping up call and completing your residency is huge. So glad it's your turn to see the finish line.

It's hard to think that soon Kentucky will be a memory. We've been here nearly nine years and still have two more to go and it's hard to think it will ever end, and yet, when it think about how much different my life will be, it's not something I can imagine. There's always good and bad with change, but you just have to focus on the positive aspects to get through.

Good luck with it all. We are SO happy for you!!

Okay Lacey,
You've done it! You have officially gotten a husband through medical school. That's a serious accomplishment! I hope that when you all finally settle into the Idaho life that you can find a weekend to get away with your husband. I'm so proud of you all.

Lacey, I don't even have words for you guys.:) Congrats on everything wonderful happening in your lives.! I vividly remember when you first moved to Louisville with two kids, and I had to help Nancy tell you and the other new "dark haired girl" apart.:) Good luck in the coming months of transition and remember you always have a place to stay if you pass through Denver.

I don't know what to write exactly. But, I am very happy that you have so many blessings and accomplishments in your life. Why is life so hard, but so good at the same time? I am so happy for your sweet, beautiful family. I love the photo you all on the Belle of Louisville. I am so glad that we will get to attend Tanner's baptism. I am so sad that you are moving away. It's starting to hit me and boy oh boy will Gage be in shock that his friend Brian and family are not going to be there when he walks in so freely through the front door. And, what a shock to the new owner of your home!!!

I want to come! Perhaps I'll have to wait to find some of those choice memories over the next 3 years as you call Mountain Home, Idaho, your home. I can hardly wait for the move--but still wish I could be there too.

Lace- how we love your family. We miss you. Davey is sitting here with me at the computer pointing at Emma and saying "That's my best friend. Can we please, please go to thems house?"

I know this summer will be challenging with the move - so wish I was there to help like you were ALWAYS there for me. Love you.
